The Courtenay Whalers were hosts to the Campbell River Panthers Saturday, January 16. Campbell River came out fast and feisty scoring the first goal of the evening.  Whalers rebounded with a snappy tic tac toe goal finished off by Josee Bureau (Aero Art Screen Printing) assisted by Alison Abraham and Bert Churchill.  Captain Tera Kasubuchi (Comox Valley Auto Electric) took it to the net and scored putting the Whalers in the lead at the end of the first period.  The home team was caught off guard at the start of the second as a Panther forward ripped a quick shot into the net tying up the game 2-2 .  Assistant captain, Jody Finc (Vancouver Island Insurance Centre) picked up the intensity making two great assists, finding Tammy Rogers for a tip in, and later passing to Nicole Ivanov, fighting for position in front of the net, and was rewarded with a goal. Team tough girl, Josee Bureau dazzled the goalie with a back hand shot after a hard fought turn over.  Minutes later Bureau earned her hat trick, tipping in a fast past from Ivanov in front of the net!  The last goal of the night was set up by Kasubuchi as she intercepted a Panthers pass, skated through the defending line to set up Kelly Godard in perfect position and hungry for a goal making it a 7-3 win for the Whalers.

The Whalers thank their sponsors; the Whistle Stop Pub and Fitness Excellence for their support.
