Another win for the Whalers! (by Captain Buch)
The Courtenay Whalers finished the month of February off with a pair of games in Campbell River. The Whalers beat the Campbell River Cougars on Feb 19th with a 8-2 victory, and also squeaked by the Campbell River travel team by a score of 6-5 on Feb 27th. Both games saw Kayla Novelli (Comox Valley Auto Electric) score a hat-trick, while Josee Bureau (Aero Art Screen Printing) continued her scoring streak in the first of the two games by completing a hat-trick as well. The line combination of Jan Dafoe, Lee McGeorge (Whales Tale Toys), and Sky Zimmerman (Brian McLean Chevrolet) combined for the other two goals in the first victory.
The second game saw the line of Jody Fink (Vancouver Island Insurance Centers-Courtenay), Kelly Roloff, and Tera Kasubuchi (Comox Valley Auto Electric) combine for a goal, while Sky Zimmerman also converted a goal on a creative passing play with Jain Banham and Novelli. Defensive core was a strong asset in game two, with veteran players Roberta Churchill and Shirlee Carver (Vancouver Island Insurance Centers-Comox) holding the blue-line with their defensive partners Allison Abraham and Lacey Mortensen. Jaimie Banham was outstanding in net for both games, and made many spectacular saves in the final minutes to record the 6-5 victory.
