Code of Conduct

The Courtenay Whalers Women’s Hockey Team was founded by a passionate group of women dedicated to promoting hockey as a fun, safe, and inclusive team sport for players of all skill levels. Our primary goals are to enjoy the game, build community, and develop our hockey skills.

All team members are expected to follow our Code of Conduct to remain in good standing. Failure to comply may result in suspension or removal from the team.

player expectations

Respect teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and volunteers at all times.

sportsmanship

Sportsmanship and fair play to teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials, are the forefront of the team’s philosophy and attitude. Shaking hands with opponents after competition is a routine procedure. Good sportsmanship should be demonstrated before, during and after games.

behaviour

All players shall be courteous, mature, cooperative and respectful at all times. Individuals should conduct themselves with the knowledge that they, alone, are responsible for their own actions. Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents.

safe play

All players will commit to playing safely and responsibly, prioritizing the well-being of yourself and others.

substance expectations

The use of alcohol or drugs is prohibited during competition.

profanity

The use of profane or improper language is not acceptable.

accountability

All players are required to let a Team Coordinator know if they are unavailable for practice or game at least once week in advance.

communication

Players should approach a Team Coordinator or Team Captain with respect to coaching or any other issues that may arise.
