The Whalers recently attended the Victoria Pacific Cup for the first time and a great experience it was. Despite many of their team members having little experience in the big league, they managed to come out with a pretty impressive record of 1-1-1. The team faced teams from the big cities of Victoria and Vancouver and were able to bring in their A game, giving each team a good run for their money.

In another game between hometown rivals, the Comox Valley Breakers and Courtenay Whalers battled through 3 periods of play at the Comox Valley Sports Centre last Saturday.
Whalers had an early lead in the game, opening with a goal at 18:10. The penalty box was busy for the Whalers, but they held off any chances of power play goals for the Breakers.
The Whalers lone goal of the period was unanswered until the last minute of the first period when the Breakers scored with a shot from the point with only 0:11 seconds left.
Heading into the second, action was hot end to end. Whalers broke the tie at 12:53 during the second period, then scored 2 more. Ending the second period in a 4-1 lead for the Whalers.
Third period action started off slow, but ended hot, as the Whalers scored 3 more goals in the last 7 minutes of play.
The game ended with a final score of 7-1 for the Whalers.
The Courtenay Whalers will have another chance to show their prowess on the ice when they meet the Port Alberni Lady Cougars on Sunday, January 31 at 3:30pm at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
The Whalers would like to thank their long time sponsors in Ecofish Research and Brian McLean Chevrolet Buick Ltd.
