The Whalers started they tournament play Friday afternoon (March 26th) at 4h30pm against home team the Campbell River Wildcats. The first period proved to be even with the score being tied at two after 15 minutes of play. The Whalers put the first goal on the board with Kayla Novelli (Wales Tales and Toys) scoring  from a pass from winger Josée Bureau (Aero Art Screen Printing ). Novelli went on to score her second of the game, once again from a pass from Bureau.

The second period saw the Whalers struggling a bit on the defensive end letting in three quick goals within 1 minute. Lacey Mortensen (Comox Valley Auto Electric & Supply) made some amazing saves filling in for regular goalie Jaimie Banham. Outstanding play form Novelli continued in the third period when she was able to put one more passed the opponent’s goalie. Good pressure from the Whalers in the third period wasn’t enough from them to catch up to Campbell River who won the game by a score of 7-3.

Captain Tera Kasubuchi (Insuracentres Vancouver Island)  was voted MVP of the game and skated away with a valuable carpet and other gifts.

Next games are on Saturday afternoon at 2h45pm and 6h30pm at the Campbell River rinks against Nanaimo and Port Alberni. Once again, the Whalers would  like to thank their major sponsor Fitness Excellence for their support in helping the team have a succesful season 09/10.
